Group lessons and ensembles range from 30 – 90 minutes.

Do you have group lessons?

Our group offerings vary.  Visit our group page for more details.

Can I take just one lesson?

Yes!  With our casual lesson option, you may register for 1 – 4 lessons at a time.  Or, register for weekly, ongoing lessons and have the option to end at the end of any given month as long as we are notified by the 15th of the month that you will not be continuing.

What’s the difference between casual and ongoing lessons?

With our casual lesson option, you may register for 1 – 3 lessons at a time. This might be more suitable for people with busy schedules or who may only want to take a few lessons.

Our ongoing lessons allow you to secure the same time each week with the same teacher at a lower lesson rate than our casual lessons.

For both options, we do require a completed registration form.

How many lessons are there?

You are charged for the number of weeks there are in each month for the day your lesson is scheduled.  Additionally, you should be aware of the following 2016/2017 dates:

  • Thanksgiving:  October 10th
  • Remembrance Day:  November 11th
  • Christmas Break:  December 19th – January 2nd
  • Family Day:  February 13th
  • Spring Break:  March 13th – 25th
  • Easter:  April 14th – 17th
  • Victoria Day Weekend:  May 20th – 22nd
  • Last Lesson Day:  June 30th

How do I choose a teacher?

While some people know who they wish to register with, most of our students arrive with no teacher preference.  You can visit our list of lesson availability by instrument or our teacher biographies to help choose.  Both areas indicate the minimum age requirements of the different teachers and which days they teach.  Once you have a “short list”, you will need to contact to store directly to determine what times are available.

Does a particular teacher have any open times?

You will need to contact the store directly to determine exact availability.

How can I register?

You can register in the store or over the telephone with a credit card (you will need to complete and sign the registration form before the first lesson).  Payments are processed monthly on the 1st and will be for the number of lessons in the upcoming month.  There are no lessons on statutory holidays or during Christmas and Spring Break.  You will need to complete a registration form and to supply a credit card or series of post-dated cheques to hold your spot.

When can I register?

You can register for Casual lessons any time, no more than 7 days in advance.

New students may register for private lessons at any time, excluding the pre-registration periods for returning students.

Registration dates are posted on our Lesson Main Page

What is pre-registration?

Pre-registration is the period when existing ongoing lesson students may register for the next year. During this time, they may only secure their existing time slots, subject to teacher availability.

What is “Switchestration”?

Switchestration occurs after our pre-registration period for our existing students. During this time, students from the current school year may change day, time or teacher and other members from their families may also register for the next school year.

What if I want to quit?

While we never like to see our students withdraw, we know that circumstances change.  If you wish to withdraw from lessons, you need only let us (not the teacher) know by the 15th of the month and lessons will cease at the end of that month.

What if I have to miss a lesson?

No refunds will be offered for missed any missed lessons.  Missed or cancelled lessons are not carried forward into the next month’s fees as our teachers are paid for the time they are here whether or not the lesson is attended. However:

  • If you inform us (not the teacher) of an absence for a particular month before the 1st of that month, you will not be charged for that lesson.
  • If a month begins and you discover that you need to miss a lesson we will see if there’s another time available with your teacher that week*. If that doesn’t work out, you may send a family member or friend in your place. There will be no refund or alternate make-ups offered.

*For illness, we will do our best to accommodate in a different time the same week or the following week if the teacher has availability, but there will be times it will not work out.  While we are sympathetic that illness strikes without warning, we are trying to be fair to both our students’ families and our teachers.  By not charging for absences that we know of before the first of the month, we are enabling some cost savings for planned absences.

How do I book a make-up lesson?

No make-up lessons or refunds will be offered for any missed lessons.  Missed or cancelled lessons are not carried forward into the next month’s fees as our teachers are paid for the time they are here whether or not the lesson is attended.  However:

Will I need an instrument?

Yes, you will need an instrument to practice on. If you don’t already have one, you might want to visit our rental or sales pages for options.

Do I need to bring my instrument to my lesson?

Yes, with the exception of drum, piano and harp, you will need to bring your instrument each week. Our harp teacher may also require you to bring your instrument until she is certain you are able to tune it yourself.

What’s the youngest age you accept for students?

Our teachers set their own minimum age. Some take students as young as 4, others have set a higher minimum age. Our list of lesson availability by instrument and our teacher biographies both indicate the minimum age requirements of the different teachers.

What’s the oldest age you accept for students?

We believe no one is too old to take music lessons!
