Interested in jazz and blues improvisation but never get a chance to play? The Art of Improvisation series is a hands-on introduction to jazz and blues music for musicians of all ages, and all instruments are welcome. Students will learn how to apply their ear, their technique and knowledge of music theory to forms of music-making that don’t primarily rely on written notation.

The series will provide instruction and guidance in the basic rhythmic, harmonic and melodic elements of jazz and blues with the aim of developing a method for improvisation and engendering a life-long ability to participate in important unwritten musical traditions, traditions which emphasize spontaneity and individual creativity.
