Jessica Burkart
Jessica is currently a music student at the Vancouver Academy of Music, where she will complete her Artist's Diploma in clarinet performance. Recently she graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Music. She has studied clarinet with several teachers including Charles Huddleson, Jeff Campbell, Don Ross, Keith MacLeod and her current teacher, Cris Inguanti.
She has played clarinet for 12 years and piano, which is her secondary instrument, for 15. For both instruments, Jessica is well-versed with Royal Conservatory of Music requirements. She has completed grade 9 for clarinet and grade 8 for piano.
Along with solo and orchestral performance, Jessica is heavily involved in chamber music. Her woodwind quintet, The Nachschlag Wind Quintet, has obtained a number of achievements. In 2008 they were finalists in the Friends of Chamber Music competition, won first place in the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival, and won first place in the Performing Arts BC Provincial Music Festival for senior chamber music. They have also been invited to perform in showcase recitals, benefit concerts, and demonstration groups for educational purposes.
Jessica has played with many large ensembles including the Academy Symphony Orchestra, UBC Symphony Orchestra, UBC Symphonic Wind Ensemble, University of Victoria Wind Symphony, University of Alberta Concert Band, Edmonton Youth Orchestra, Alberta Honour Band, and Northern Alberta Honour Band.
Jessica strives for excellence regarding playing the clarinet and creating music, and to have fun and enjoy doing so. She teaches all levels, from those who arrive at their first lesson with the clarinet still in its plastic wrapping to advanced students preparing for a musical career.
