Liam MacDonald
Liam began his formal training at nine years old when he started taking classical percussion lessons in his hometown, Kitchener, Ontario. His professional playing career started soon after this in his mid teens when he began playing in clubs with various Rock and R&B bands throughout Southern, Ontario. Liam continued to play in Rock bands through his teens and early twenties when his new found interests in Jazz and World music made him decide to relocate to Vancouver and study Jazz at Capilano College.
In the last ten years since Liam has been living in Vancouver he has been a member such diverse groups as the Bocephus King (Rock/R&B), Bottleneck (Alt-country), The Modellos (Surf rock), Looseacoustic (Jazz improvisation), Terminal Station (Blues), Maqam (Middle Eastern Folk), The Town Pants (Celtic), Fantazea (Brazilian Jazz), Zazueira (Brazilian Pop). With these bands Liam has toured across Canada too many times to count, throughout the Western United States, and across Europe. As well as being a member of the above groups Liam has also shared the stage with Jim Byrnes, Jesse Zubot, Steve Dawson, Bill Coon, Celso Machado, Coco Love Alcorn, Luke Doucet, and Ridley Bent.
Although Liam has been a professional player and teacher for several years he still considers himself a student and is always searching for new musical ideas and challenges to face. While always maintaining his roots in American Music (Jazz, Rock, & Blues) he has been extensively searching out the rhythms and music from other cultures around the world, primarily that of Brazil and Africa.
