Rachel Read
Rachel began her musical journey at an early age with private instruction and achieved Grade 10 piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music at the age of seventeen and her A.R.C.T. in Voice Performance with First Class Honours at the age of twenty-one. Continuing her musical studies at the post-secondary level she completed her Bachelor of Music with Distinction in the Concurrent Education program at Queen’s University in the spring of 2007. Rachel competed extensively in the Kiwanis Festival in Kingston, Ontario placing in all categories - musical theatre, classical voice, opera and art song.
Rachel completed her Bachelor of Education (Intermediate/Senior) in the Artist in Community Program Track at the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University in the spring of 2008. In the fall of 2009 she then completed her Master’s of Arts in Music Education from the University of Toronto with a focus on world musics and early childhood education. In 2009 Rachel won a prestigious performance grant from the University of Toronto Celebration of the Arts, with which she showcased her vocal talent in a tri-campus festival that presented the university's vibrant arts scene to members of the school and community.
In the summer of 2010 Rachel finished her Primary/Junior Qualifications and Special Education Part I through Queen’s University Continuing Education Program. In the fall of 2010 Rachel moved to Vancouver with her husband and in her spare time loves learning to play the fiddle, running, African drumming, singing, playing steel pan drums and the piano.
Rachel enjoys teaching students of any age and any musical preference. Rachel studied voice with Dianne Baird, Marie Anderson and Jean MacPhail. She has extensive experience preparing students for Royal Conservatory of Music examinations for piano, voice, music theory and history.
