Torey Zachary
Torey Zachary (B.Mus., A.R.C.T., L.L.C.M.) began her musical studies at age four on the piano. Her principal teachers include Ernst Schneider, David Vandereyk, Terence Dawson and Miranda Wong. She has performed frequently at concerts, music festivals and community events in the Okanagan and Vancouver, achieving many performance awards and representing Kelowna at the BC Festival of the Arts. A graduate of UBC’s School of Music, she also holds an A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory, an L.L.C.M. from London College of Music and Media, and a Diploma in Music from Capilano College. Additional studies include voice (classical and jazz), guitar and Orff methodology.
Torey’s background in dance has also been a strong asset to her teaching and she can sometimes be found making students dance to better understand the music. Recent musical projects include assisting a grade five class in creating a small scale “opera” on themes of ocean life and sustainability and performing with the VOXY Improvising Choir.
Torey enjoys teaching in a variety of capacities. In addition to teaching private piano at Prussin Music, she teaches at Capilano University in the Children’s Community Music School (group and private piano), instructs group music classes for toddlers at West Point Grey Community Centre and provides weekly music classes for ABC University Daycare. Torey has enjoyed teaching students of all ages since her teens, and has a particular interest in the benefits of music study for children with special needs.
