Brian Wong
Brian Wong was introduced to the violin at the age of 9 in his elementary school’s strings program. Since then, Brian has grown to love the instrument and has spent most of his life playing in ensembles. He next began to study the violin privately but continued into Churchill Secondary’s string orchestra where he became a member of the Senior A Orchestra and was given the opportunity to play with BC Honour Orchestra during his senior years. Upon graduation, he was given Churchill’s Fine Arts Music scholarship to help pursue his future endeavors in music.
Brian next completed a music major at UBC where he was introduced to a spectrum of different musical influences. His main area of focus was composition but studied classical and jazz theory, history, conducting, film scoring, electro acoustic music and Ethnomusicology including Indian rhythms and various folk musics of Asia. From his studies at UBC, he developed the value and appreciation of a well-rounded approach to studying music.
Since graduation, Brian has been teaching violin privately and aids as a violin instructor in the Vancouver Orchestra Club. As a teacher, Brian is encouraging and tries to make lessons as fun as possible as he hopes he can share his love of music with his students.
