Colin McLean

Colin Munro McLean is the current Orchestral String Specialist in the Prussin Music store, who has been teaching in Vancouver since 2003. As a violin and mandolin player, he has recorded and performed extensively with instrumental ensembles, choirs, singer songwriters, and string-bands: Raghu Lokanathan, James Baldwin, the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, Fellini’s Hat Band, Driving Wheel, Irish fiddle groups and others.

In 2008, he graduated from VCC’s new four-year Bachelor of Applied Music program where he double majored on violin and mandolin, studying with Jesse Zubot and Toni Stanick. He is a founding member of the VCC Acoustic Ensemble directed by John Reischman and he sang for six terms with the VCC Madrigal Singers under Gerald Van Wyck. He also holds degrees from UBC in both education and history, and certificates in Orff method (music for children) and ESL instruction.

Mr. McLean says: “The main reason I play is to connect with people. We all love music and I try to help my students find healthy ways for it to be a part of their lives. The form this takes is different for each of us, but generally the experience is best when careful practice over time has resulted in real and permanent musical progress.”
