Ruth Wendland
I began my musical journey at an early age and was immersed in the Suzuki Method under the tutelage of Mary Schreiber. Her patience and dedication in teaching violin enabled me to play by ear and acquire perfect pitch. I furthered my musical experience by joining the Intermediate Delta Youth Orchestra and progressed to the Senior Delta Youth Orchestra. By the time I graduated from high school, I had won two consecutive summer scholarships with the National Youth Orchestra in Kingston, Ontario. I have since played in the Vancouver Academy of Strings, toured the world with a contemporary music group, and played in numerous events including weddings, Easter and Christmas productions.
I have been teaching beginner to intermediate violin for the past 20 years, aiding students in achieving honour marks in Royal Conservatory exams (up to and including Grade 5) and local music festivals. My teaching style incorporates a blend of sightreading and ear training with an emphasis on the latter. Understanding learning abilities of each individual student is key to the teaching approach I take. I welcome beginner to intermediate students whether they are as young as 70 or 7. As your instructor, I will endeavour to help you reach your musical goals, whether it is to play for personal enjoyment or achieve a scholastic level of proficiency.
