Debra-Jean Creelman
Debra-Jean has been studying voice since the age of 14. She has been gigging professionally since the age of 15, and has had the opportunity to sing just about every genre of music there is. She rounded out her musical education at the VCC school of music, where she completed the 3rd year program, majoring in Jazz and Contemporary Voice, and minoring in Classical Voice. This experience in so many diverse styles, gives her the ability to cater lessons towards each student's musical goals.
As a founding member of Canadian indie rock outfit Mother Mother, Debra-Jean was afforded ample opportunities to hone her skills as a vocalist. During her four years with the vocal harmony driven band she played countless festivals, and showcases including: Sled Island, CMJ, SXSW, Virgin Fest, Vancouver Jazz Fest, Montreal Jazz Fest, CMW, and NXNE. As well as opening for the likes of Patrick Watson, Spoon, Okkervil River, and more. Creelman’s time with Mother Mother saw her headline such historic rooms as Vancouver’s Richards on Richards and Toronto’s Lee’s Palace. In addition to two full length Mother Mother albums released on Last Gang Records, Debra-Jean’s vocals can be found on the records of a slew of Canadian Artists including: Frazey Ford, The Wooden Sky, Josh Martinez, and many others. In November 2008 Debra Jean left Mother Mother in order to pursue her own solo career. She has just released a self-titled EP with her new band, Debra-Jean and the Means.
