Kristen
holds a Bachelor of Music degree (Music Theory/ Minor in German) from Acadia
University. She has been studying classical guitar for 11 years and has studied
with world class guitarists (Eli Kassner- student of Andres Segovia and teacher
of Jesse Cook & Liona Boyd, Dale Kavanagh, Steve Thachuk, Eugene Cormier
and Ken Davidson) and is one of a few teachers in the direct line of Segovia
teachings. Kristen had attended the International Guitar Symposium in Germany
where she strengthened her technical skills and performed with some of the worlds
most serious guitar students. Kristen has had four years of teaching experience,
starting while she was still in University, at the Maritime Conservatory of
Performing Arts (Atlantic Canada’s most prestigious music/ ballet institution)
and continued with the Vancouver School Board, and various private studios in
the Vancouver area.
Kristen put off graduate school acceptance, (at the University of Hawaii) to couple her guitar skills with double bass, drums and keys in her hip hop group Language-Arts. On their second performance, they warmed the stage at the “Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival” in Whistler, for Xavier Rudd. Now Kristen spends time playing around Vancouver, teaching guitar and writing about music for a webzine www.lefthip.com. She enjoys teaching classical and all other styles of guitar, along with basic guitar theory and composition from beginner to advanced, ages 7+.
